Learn how to setup your Etsy shop with these helpful tips:
STEP 1 – Free Listings For Etsy
Want to start your store with 40 free listings from Etsy? Click on this link to sign up for an Etsy account you will get your first 40 product listings free. The free listings are great if you are unsure about opening a store. They provide a risk free way to try it out before spending a dime. Plus we both win when you sign up! It is Etsy’s give 40 get 40 referral plan.
STEP 2 – List Products
Make a list of the products you want to offer. When you sign up for the shop Etsy recommends adding at least 10 products to your store to give it a good head start. I recommend adding as many as possible to give your new shop some variety when customers visit your items. You should have a goal of at least 40-50 items but starting with 10-20 would be a great start.
STEP 3 – Professional Product Photos
Take clean crisp professional photo’s of your products. You can use programs such as Adobe Photoshop or BeFunky.com to edit your photos. Photos should be at least 1500px wide.
If you are a digital designer, you can purchase mockups to overlay your images on. Here are some examples from our shop Fresh Mockups:
Research and write great descriptions. Here is a list of questions you want to answer for your customers in the description:
- What it is?
- Size, Dimensions
- Who is it for? Women, Men, Babies, Business
- What is it for? Wall Art, Clothing, Fashion Statement, Organization
- How do I purchase? Is it shipped? Digital Download? Made to Order?
The list above will be different for each product niche you are selling in. Those are just a few ideas to get you thinking. If you were the customer, what would you want to know about the product before you made a purchase.
STEP 5 – Banner For Etsy Shop
Make a banner for your store. If you want a professional looking store make a banner for the shop page that has your shop name, images of items in the store or a blurb about what your store sells. Banners should be be at least 3360 x 840 pixels. You can add the banner to your shop after you publish your shop so have it ready.
STEP 6 – Create Shop Policies
Make sure to add your return and shipping policies to your shop so your customers know what to expect after a purchase. Do you need time to custom make the product before shipping or if you drop ship products how long is it between the order and the time the item ships to the customer.
Extra – Read Sellers Handbook
Don’t forget to read the Etsy Sellers Handbook. It is packed full of information about how to start a successful Etsy shop. It is updated with the latest changes to the platform, tips on SEO, how to set up policies and more. You may want to read through this before step 1.
